Swim sessions

Swim update as at 26 Dec 2020:

**NO CLUB SWIM SESSIONS WHILE CHESTER IS IN TIER 3 OR 4**

  • In tier 3, indoor pools can open and people can swim as members of the public, following the government guidelines on gathering indoors. However, club swimming is not permitted for people aged 18 or more as at 31 August 2020. Outdoor swimming is permitted, alone, with 1 other person or with other members of your household or support bubble.
  • In tier 4, indoor pools will close. Outdoor swimming is permitted, alone, with 1 other person or with other members of your household or support bubble.

See if you can keep up some swimming, either on your own or with others, where permitted. We’ll post swim sets on the club facebook and website. Here’s an easy to remember set to get you started:

  • W/U 200m steady + 4 x 50m (25m drill, 25m steady)
  • Adv fast: 24 x 100m off 1:55 (2 steady, 1 fast – repeat 8 times = the time you start each 100m will move anti-clockwise around the clock by 5 seconds with each 100m, until you have been round the clock twice); OR
  • Adv medium / Inter fast: 21 x 100m off 2:05 (2 steady, 1 fast – repeat 7 times = the time you start each 100m will move clockwise around the clock by 5 seconds with each 100m, until you have been round the clock 1 ¾ times): OR
  • Inter medium: 18 x 100m off 2:15 (2 steady, 1 fast – repeat 6 times = the time you start each 100m will move clockwise around the clock by 15 seconds with each 100m, until you have been round the clock 1 ½ times)
  • S/D 200m steady = Adv fast 3000m, Adv medium/Inter fast 2700m, Inter medium 2400m

Brio pools and City Baths plan to reopen on 4 Jan 2021 if Chester is in tier 3.

If you are going to swim outdoors, we suggest to refresh/prepare yourself with some outdoor swimming tips from sensible sources. You can find various resources about open water swimming here on the club website. We don’t recommend open water swimming alone, particularly in cold weather.

Technique swim sessions

At the moment there are no specific sessions dedicated to technique. Coaches are introducing technique into squad sessions as most people have not trained for some time, but we can’t hold learner sessions yet, sorry.

*****

Technique sessions are usually held at Chester City Baths on Saturdays 16:00 – 17:00.

Our Technique swim session is for all abilities who would like to improve their front crawl technique. It’s also appropriate for novice swimmers who are learning front crawl or those recovering from injury.

  • New to swimming.
  • Limited understanding of technique.
  • May lack fitness.
  • May include post injury rehab.

Training Focus

  • Learn to swim front crawl.
  • Develop stroke, using drills.
  • Begin swim endurance.
  • Develop lane discipline.
  • Priority on technique, no pressure on speed!
