Course

The aquathlon consists of an open-water swim followed by an off-road run. It takes place on the River Dee, starting and finishing at Queens Park High School/The Riverside Canoe Club Jetty. There is no bike leg in this event.

Swim

The river swim course consists of 2 laps of a 375 meter course.  We also have a short swim version with a 1 lap 200 meter swim if you are less confident

You will be counted into the water,  do not get into the river elsewhere – you must pass the marshals who are counting you in for your safety.

Staring from the swim pontoon by the The Riverside Canoe Club, the competitors will swim upstream, keeping the yellow buoys on your left hand side before turning in an anticlockwise direction at the orange buoy(s),  then down stream, past the exit pontoon, and turning again at the orange buoy(s) before swimming back upstream to the exit pontoon. After the first lap, exit using the swim ramp then dive or jump straight back in off the other side of the swim ramp to start the second lap. After completing the second lap, exit via the swim pontoon and proceed to transition.

If you are nervous or don’t feel too confident in the swim – don’t worry,  there will be marshals in canoes/SUP’s to watch over you. If you get into difficulty lie on your back with your hand in the air to signal to the canoes/SUP’s that you require aid.  When one comes to you please listen to their instructions – do not grab onto them with both hands…we don’t want them in the water too!

Wetsuits are not normally compulsory – depending on water temperature.

Run Course

The run course flat, and entirely off-road on gravel paths. Leaving transition the run follows the river along the path before looping back at the marshalled turnaround point and returning along the same path. Runners will turn left at the fork in the path to complete the lap before starting a second lap of the course. After the second lap head out of the Meadows to finish within the rowing club complex.  For the Super Sprint (Shorter race) we you will only do one lap of the meadows before returning to the rowing club to finish.

Withdrawals

If you have to drop out of your race for any reason, please tell a marshal immediately.
