Swim sessions

Swim update as at 21 Feb 2024:

By popular demand, Friday night swims return! We are starting on 1 March with 2 lanes at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, 7-8pm. Following the Facebook poll, we’ll start with intermediate lanes – 1 lane for swimmers with a CSS pace of around 1.40-2m per 100m and 1 lane for swimmers with a CSS pace of >2m per 100m. So that everyone gets a good swim, please book into the correct lane on Nifty Entries but switch lanes if necessary when you get there. The swim set will be tailored to swimmers within this bracket of CSS pace. We’ll aim to have a coach on poolside and when that’s not possible, there will be a coach written set. This will be a 3 month trial – if we don’t get enough swimmers, we won’t be able to afford to keep both lanes. And if there is more demand, we’ll look at increasing the lanes. EPSV pool is perfect for those who like a nice modern, well lit pool, with plenty of parking … a cafe and ….. even a bit of late night shopping at Cheshire Oaks!

Pool swim sessions are still selling out regularly on Mondays, busy on Saturdays and there’s a regular crop of hardy early birds on Wednesdays. Booking opens a week before each session – don’t leave it till the last minute and miss out! If you have booked and find you cannot attend, please cancel your place using either the link in the confirmation email or on Nifty Entries. This will open a place up which someone else may be able to use.

Have you managed to hang on to your tolerance for cooler water? Some people like to swim open water as far into winter as they can, shortening the time in the water and adding neoprene as necessary. If you are doing this for the first time, some tips on staying safe in cold water might come in useful.

Pool sessions – where and when:

Sessions are split between City Baths, Christleton and EPSV. They are all mixed ability, with lanes arranged by speed. We are continuing to look for lanes/sessions to match demand.

16.00 – 17.00 Saturdays, 3 lanes technique, 2 lanes squad swim

FAQs:

  • If you can’t make it to a session you’ve booked, please cancel either via the link in the confirmation email, or via the training sessions entry page on Nifty Entries.
  • The transfer button on Nifty Entries doesn’t work for training session bookings.
  • Everyone has equal chance of getting a place in any session.
  • Try putting a reminder in your calendar to book in the evening or following morning after a Monday swim. If you can’t commit to the next week’s swim at that point, keep an eye on Nifty Entries for any spaces which pop up when someone cancels.

Open water venues – please check their websites/FB for details (see links on open water swimming page).

If you are going to swim outdoors, we suggest to refresh/prepare yourself with some outdoor swimming tips from sensible sources. You can find various resources about open water swimming here on the club website. We don’t recommend open water swimming alone, particularly in cold weather.
