No matters arising and minutes taken as read by the membership.
3. Club Captain’s Report
- Summary of the Year and Progress on Club Development Plan.
- Deva Diva’s shortlisted for Race of the Year. Results will be announced this weekend.
- Mike Kane has been nominated for Volunteer of the Year.
- The Club has been recognised as NW Club of Year and put forward for Club of the Year.
- The Club continued to generate wide and varied participation.
- Membership now at 356 Senior and 77 Junior and we must ensure that we cater for the wide variety of needs.
- Thanks to the Whites (Andy & Janine) for an excellent and varied programme of member events.
- Member involvement and success in events was noted and congratulated.
- The importance of volunteers and marshals for our events was stressed and is essential for the continued success of the Club
Deva Triathlon
- Peter Timson confirmed that in 2010 the Deva will not clash with Liverpool. This year’s event continued to build on the previous successes despite the difficult economic situation. Thanks were extended to the Principal Sponsor Eureka Cycle Sports.
- 2010 event will be 6 June 2010 and Peter highlighted the dependency on volunteers and encouraged participation of members in organising and competing in the race.
Deva Divas Triathlon
- Chris Morgan confirmed, on behalf of Sally Napthen and the team, that the 2009 event continued to grow and to be extremely well received by participants. There were with 260 finishers.
- Referees gave excellent feedback and all this will culminate in the Race of the Year nomination this weekend.
- The importance of sufficient volunteers and marshals to make the race a continued success was stressed.
- The 2010 event opened on 1 November 2009 and the race will be held on 18 July 2010.
Training Weekend and Other Members Only Events 2010
- Andy White gave an overview of the range of events in 2009.
- 2010 proposals:
- Canoe vs. Runner
- Cheshire Kitten
- Ingleton 30 April to 3 May 2010
- Tour of Marches (around Ironbridge)
- Transverse Pyrenees 18-25 September 2010: circa €600 per head for trip.
- Any other ideas very welcome.
Dee Mile: date not confirmed as yet.
Racing - Club Championships and League Races
Derek Mason gave a review of 2009 and 2010:
- Winter league saw 67 men 55 ladies participate.
- 2010 would be more varied.
- Chirk will be the deciding event for the 2009/10 winter league.
- Summer league definitions have been augmented (see website for details)
- Three Club Awards will be decided and presented at the Christmas Do - please e-mail Degsy ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) with nominations if you can’t make the party.
- Looking at producing a “Club Hall of Fame” to recognise the achievements of members and give other members something to aim at.
Training - Chris Morgan confirmed:
- We now have training sessions 7 days a week across the disciplines. See Club Training Diary on the website.
- Peter Timson is looking for more coaching support for Thursday Turbo sessions.
- We now have several new Level 1 coaches and people doing Level 2.
- Peter and Sally are on their way to Level 3 qualification. • Chris emphasised how much effort is put into these sessions – coaches are volunteers who have to plan as well as run the sessions. The Club should appreciate this effort.
Juniors
- 50 active members; ethos is to be inclusive and non-elitist.
- Aquathlon in March attracted 108 entrants and the Triathlon in September 156.
- Try to run on a self-funded basis including the contribution to the (juniors’) year-end party.
- Parental volunteers and coaches continue to support juniors making the activity self-sufficient.
- Developing relationships with Newcastle UL and Oswestry Tri.
- Colin Wilson summarised the broad successes of the Club and the fantastic help and support provided by members which ensures that this success is continued.
4. ClubTreasurer’s Report
- 2009 Accounts (details available on request):
- As intended the Club ran a £15k deficit for the year having made investments in:
- Club member events £3.3k
- Kit change subsidy and stock £12.7k
- Coach education £4.5k .
- Race surpluses of £1k and £1.3k .

- Membership Charges for 2010 - It was agreed that the membership fees should remain unchanged.
5. Club Secretary’s Report
- Club Constitution: It was proposed that the maximum tenure for the Executive positions should be three consecutive years. It was carried that the constitution should be thus amended.
- Proposed by Andy White that the Club Development Plan for the following year should be included as an item to be reviewed and agreed at each AGM. This would be used as general terms of reference to the executive officers in the coming year. The motion was passed.
- Club Kit: Jean Ashley confirmed that it had been a very busy year having sold circa £3.5k of Skinfit and two thirds of Provision kit.
- Skinfit rates for 2010 look to be excessive and will not come pre-printed. In light of this, Eureka Cycle Sports have been approached to develop a mutually beneficial proposal to provide Club Kit through Eureka Cycle Sports.
- Leisure kit is likely to continue to be available via Jean.
- Phil Townshend confirmed that CTT now accept Tri gear in TT events.
- Bill Neave confirmed that it was the Executive Officers’ intention to continue to ensure that Club Kit was available to members at affordable cost.
- Website development: Phil Townshend confirmed that alternatives had been considered for replacing the current site with a more modern, flexible format. A proposal has been submitted which will be evaluated by the new Executive Officers.
- Communications: Dave Taylor congratulated members on their successes over the year. This had made his job both pleasant and interesting. He confirmed that Terry Walsh was looking to stand down from producing the Weekly Bulletin. Volunteers to take over this job should make themselves known to Dave Taylor. Dave also encouraged members to send in details of their successes to the bulletin – don’t be shy!

7. Any Other Business
- There being no other business, Colin thanked Phil, Bill and Jayne for their contribution to the Club over the past few years and proposed that they be given Lifetime Membership.
