Race update:
Hi all,
Many thanks for all your entries. Currently the amount of entries makes this year’s Dee Mile the biggest ever!
I just wanted to send out an update for on the night details. As we have introduced a new category to this year’s race, we will be open for registration from 16:45. Registration will close at 18:00. If you are not there at 18:00, you will not be allowed to take part in the event.
We aim to start the Novice race at 18:30 and the Dee mile race at 19:00
As last year, registration will be held at the Riverside tea garden, which is right next to the finish of the race, under the suspension bridge. If you want to leave your bags here, they have kindly said we can. Also as last year, we will be walking up to the start of both races. There will be a van parked on the meadows, near to where you get into the river for the start of both races. Please only bring essential items up to the start of the race. Try and encourage friends, family anyone else to carry your belongings back for you! This van will be parked first of all at the start of the novice race, and will then move further up the river to near the start of the Dee Mile event.
15 minutes before the start of each race there will be a safety briefing, please ensure you are there for it as it will provide you with important information about the event you are taking part in.
As you may be aware, the race will be timed by electronic chip timing. You will be given this at registration and you will need to wear this on your wrist. As you finish the race, the pad you need to touch will be hanging from the suspension bridge. You will need to swim under this, in between the 2 big yellow buoys and reach up and touch the finishing pad. You will then need to swim down stream to the pontoon to exit the river.
This year, if you present your hat that you have raced in back to the Riverside Tea Garden staff, you will receive a free hot drink and cup of soup which they are kindly providing for us.
I hope that you have an enjoyable event and I have my fingers crossed for good weather!
If there is anything you need to know before the race, please get in touch. Likewise, if you know of anyone that is willing to canoe on the night, please let me know.
Many thanks,
Chris Malpass
